Philly Loves Heavy Metal

We LOVE heavy metal and we don’t mean the music! Copper, brass, and bronze—the warmer, darker family members of the metal family are showing no signs of slowing down in the design world. These matte alternatives to silver and gold have been on the scene for the last several years and we are still enamored by them!

We’re particularly fond of Maggpie Vintage Rental’s ‘Lincoln Chair’.

This beautiful table setting is so sophisticated. We love the use of the dark, earthy shades of bronze.

As couples are becoming more and more concerned with serving up a stellar reception menu, dinner options are becoming wider, more exciting, and more complex! Every wedding guest hopes for amazing food and reception menus have come a long way over the years. Couples, especially the ‘foodie-centric’ type are spending more time getting creative with their menus and making dinner one of their main points of focus.

Luckily, for those of us who live in (or around) Philadelphia, we have the ‘cream of the crop’ caterers to choose from. If you are a Philadelphian and you like to eat (who doesn’t), chances are that you are well acquainted with Starr Restaurant Organization. Aside from operating over 20 restaurants in Philadelphia alone, SRO has a catering department, Stephen Starr Events.

Stephen Starr Events provides clients with options to customize menus based on theme or personality. We love the way Starr Events puts an unexpected twist on classic fare and exotic dishes!

Small bites have gained popularity over the last couple of years. What better way to represent a couple than to serve up mini versions of the foods they love?

We think that the presentation is almost as important as the taste!

Not interested in making dinner the main focus? Couples are offering tasting stations and cocktail style dinner where food is served all night and people can eat whenever they please!

One of the hardest parts of wedding planning is the guest list! The second hardest—choosing who sits with who! We also know how awkward it can be to sit with a table of strangers—with only a few hours to get to know each other. We’re always on the lookout for different ways to relieve this stress for the bride and her guests.

We recently stumbled upon ‘Guesterly’–the perfect way to alleviate the dinner table dilemma!

guesterly wedding guest app

Guesterly is a customizable, mini magazine (about the size of a passport) that features each of your wedding guests. These booklets can serve as programs for the day or can be sent out a week before the wedding so that your guests can get to know each other a head of time!

Guesterly has hundreds of styles and colors to pick from!

For the tech savvy guests, new phone and website applications are popping up all over. ‘Weduary’, a website that combines the new trend of a personalized wedding website with social aspects so that guests can engage pre-wedding. Weduary connects via Facebook or email and allows users to match with other users based on common interests! Perfect for the singles on your wedding guest list.

Just because a wedding cake is the last course doesn’t mean it shouldn’t have our FULL attention! This year’s cake trends are going back to basics with unique subtlety’s that demand the spotlight. We are so excited to feature Philadelphia’s finest wedding cake designers, Whipped BakeshopVelvet Sky Bakery, and Sweet T’s Bake Shop at #LoveIsInTheAir2015, at The Horticulture Center in Philadelphia, PA. Here are some classic styles with a twist that are taking center stage this year.

This cake by Whipped Bakeshop may be small in size but not in style! Metallic accents are a huge hit this year in the wedding cake world.

This beauty by Velvet Sky Bakery hits on a few of 2015’s wedding trends. We love the contrast of the ruffled flowers and the smooth silver.

Philadelphia’s Bridal Fashion Trends

We are really inspired by this year’s incredible bridal fashion trends! The 2015 bridal runways were graced by designers like Oscar De La Renta and Vera Wang, and full of dramatic necklines, layers of tulle, and every sleeve you can imagine! We really loved the new colors that ranged from shades of blue and gray to mint green. For men, flannel cloths, patterns, and textures are all the rage! We saw lightweight, slim fitting flannels, and fine tweeds that channeled English proper.

Luckily, we Philadelphians have Lovely Bride and Commonwealth Proper to fulfill all of our haute couture needs. Both of these amazing specialty shops will be featuring their stunning fashions on the runway at #LoveIsInTheAir2015, on Thursday, February 26th at The Horticulture Center, in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia!

Here are some of our favorite 2015 wedding dresses by Lovely Bride.

The strapless sweetheart neckline and beaded top give a 30’s glam feel to this gown and we love how romantic the tiered skirt looks!

This off the shoulder gown with short sleeves is stunning. The lace bodice and slim fit is a perfect way to show off curves!

Win two tickets to #LoveIsInTheAir2015!

I was first granted this nickname a few years back when we planned and designed a wedding for Liz & Andrew (Watch the video on our homepage by clicking the link). When Liz used the term fairy godmother–badass, I was more than flattered! In most fairy tales a ‘fairy godmother’ acts as a mentor with supernatural powers! A badass is well known for carving his/her own path or going against the grain—so to speak. Comparing my team and what we do two both of these terms is one heck of compliment. It wasn’t until a couple of months ago, when we wanted to change our Instagram name that we decided to run with @fairygodmotherbadass!

In honor of this ‘new’ nick name we are going to grant a lucky couple’s wish to attend #LoveIsInTheAir2015, THE bridal event of the year!

All @fairygodmotherbadass followers who repost the #LoveIsInTheAir2015 logo (found on our instagram page) and tag both @fairygodmotherbadass and #LoveIsInTheAir2015 will be entered to win two tickets to LIITA2015 on Thursday, February 26th, at The Horticulture Center.

Happy Hashtagging!

As we look back on the past year, the most prominent word that comes to mind is GROWTH. We have had the biggest year yet in our 15-year history. We have traveled to London three times in preparation for a 40th birthday celebration that we planned for a very special lady! We have planned and designed more weddings than we have ever done before, launched our new website, and prepped for a BIGGER and better #LoveIsInTheAir2015!

Here is a look back through our year!
