We have been bursting with excitement over the last couple of weeks as photographs have been flying in from our most recent Philadelphia weddings. We are even more excited to share Katherine and Jesse’s May wedding. It was the perfect mix of romantic and classic.

Katherine and Jesse’s big day began with their first look and photographs in and around the Merion area of Pennsylvania. The stunning couple said their ‘I’ Dos’ at the Church of the Holy Redeemer before heading to their reception at the Overbrook Country Club.

Overbrook Country Club is a privately held golf club located on 128 acres of rolling hills in Bryn Mawr, PA. Its traditional but unique look was the perfect setting for Katherine and Jesse’s reception.

The entire day was so beautiful, simple and charming from start to finish. Our creative event and wedding design team used shades of pink, ivory, champagne and gold as the main colors throughout the day. Soft shades of pink and ivory florals created a soft and feminine feel. We used a mix of high and low vases that were both clear and gold. The escort table arrangement was stunning in a gold chalice vase brimming with gorgeous flowers.

The tables were dressed in champagne silk and topped with an ornate hand embroidered linen. Cocktail napkins and bar signage were customized and added a unique twist to the reception. For chairs, we used a mix of the country club’s chairs and added chivaris with blush seat cushions. For the outdoor cocktail reception we used mainly white florals in gold and blush vases. Pops of gold throughout the evening added the perfect amount of elegance!

The photographers, Paper Antler, are a husband and wife team hailing from Minneapolis, MN.They captured the day better than we could have ever imagined. I can’t wait to work with them again!

Uncommon Events Visits Paris France

It has been quite the summer here at Uncommon Events and as wedding season winds down (before it picks back up!) our Creative Design and Event Planning team is gearing up for a Paris adventure! At the end of August we are packing our bags and heading to the South of France.

France is home to some of the most beautiful spaces I have ever seen and we are looking forward to diving into this incredible source of inspiration. Aside from much needed relaxation, we have a long list of ‘must sees’. Read on to find out where we are heading!

First on the list, Versailles. The Palace of Versailles is a royal chateau and is famous for its amazing architecture. It also serves as a symbol of monarchy because of its rich political history…but did we mention its architecture?!

If you are familiar with Claude Monet then chances are you are familiar with his famous painting, ‘Water Lily Pond’. Monet painted this piece in Giverny and chose this quaint area to live. Along with his house and gardens, we will visit the Museum of Impressionism Giverny! YAY!

Where to next? The Tuileries Garden because you can never have too many flowers! These gardens cover 63 acres and still closely mirror their original design that was laid out by the royals in 1664.

We LOVE romance and who better to inspire us than the French romantic artist, Eugene Delacroix. Delacroix’s home is now a small museum that offers an escape from the crazy Paris museum scene and we’re looking forward to getting a glimpse into his life and works!

And, of course there will be shopping! Coco Chanel’s original store and apartment are so much fun to visit. Even if you don’t plan on buying anything, the famous spiral staircase to the atelier is worth the trip!

We must not forget the sweets! Fauchon is an internationally known gourmet food company and known for their French delicatessen, cakes and pastry, breads and confectionary. Fauchon’s isn’t only sweet on the palate, their flagship store is so beautiful designed and we love their beautiful storefront windows!

The list could go on and on but fall wedding season will be here before we know it! We’ll be sure to fill you in on all of our adventures. Until then, Au Revoir!

Summer Birthday Inspiration

Birthdays are for celebrating and who doesn’t love a good birthday party?! In many ways planning a summer birthday party can be less stressful than planning some of those bigger milestone events. With less pressure and little to no schedule comes room for more fun! Now, just because we may not have spent as much time fretting over the details doesn’t mean these special days don’t deserve some of the spotlight.

My birthday happens to fall in the month of July and I thought I would share some of my favorite party decor sites and their totally awesome products.

I found Studio Mucci on Etsy and I absolutely love their balloons and fabric tassel banners. All of their products are so much fun – check these out!

The Fillmore Philly

Share:Email to someoneShare on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestGoogle+

As Philadelphia wedding planners & event designers, we are always looking for new creative venues and spaces to host our events. The soon-to-be and much anticipated Fillmore Philadelphia has our creative wheels turning!

The 40,000 square foot music venue and event space is set to open in early October in the Fishtown district of Philadelphia. The Fillmore Philly will be home to 2 state-of-the art music venues with multiple bars and a restaurant. The concert hall venue space will cater to major artists, while the smaller club will host new comers on the music scene.

The Fillmore will be more than an entertainment complex for music lovers. The generous spaces will be equipped to host private events from 50 guests to 3,000 guests. Each event space will be capable of dividing into smaller nooks for private-parties of any size.

Of course, we had to find out about the interior and all around design of the beautiful structure. Rumor has it that the Fillmore will be decked out in sparkly crystal chandeliers, plush red drapes, oak flooring, exposed steel beams and a giant original chimney that will poke through the Foundry venue space. Awesome!

We can’t wait to see what the Fillmore has in store for Philadelphia and the up and coming Fishtown neighborhood!

Our passions are not only centered around frills and flowers at Uncommon Events. We are extremely proud and excited that our beautiful city was chosen to host The Democratic National Convention in 2016.

Philadelphia is home to incredible art, music, food and spirits. We host some of the coolest festivals and house the craziest sports team. As Philadelphia wedding and event planners and designers with years of experience in this city, the growing pool of talent continues to amazes us. The city’s more recent modernization and development has made it a truly dynamic place!

Uncommon Events is a female owned business and we are proud to operate in a city full of history and known for establishing freedom. We are looking forward to having the opportunity to collaborate in some way with this modern political convention, even if its with frills and flowers. 😉

We are looking forward to showing off our beautiful home as we welcome community leaders, elected officials, business leaders and citizens involved in the #DNC2016!

Go Pro & Drone Wedding Trends

The 2015 wedding season has been fabulous for our wedding planning and design team and we’ve thoroughly enjoyed being able to incorporate some incredible new wedding trends into our client’s events. One of the newest event elements on our radar is the “Go Pro” or “Drone” wedding.

Go Pro cameras and drones have allowed photographers and videographers to capture super creative shots of your BIG day. These incredible devices can capture every angle of you and your guests. Picture this; an aerial shot of your ceremony that captures every detail of the scenery! The possibilities are endless.

A few months back we planned and designed ‘Love Is in The Air 2015‘, a bridal event at the Fairmount Park Horticulture Center in Philadelphia, PA. One of our favorite Philadelphia wedding videographers, Cinemacake Filmmakers captured the incredible evening using a drone. The aerial shots, especially of the Lovely Bride fashion show are to die for!

Take a peek at the amazing video of Love is In The Air 2015!

We can’t wait to incorporate this new trend in our next Philadelphia wedding or event.

4th of July Wedding at Bedford Springs
  • by Melissa Brannon
Share:Email to someoneShare on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestGoogle+

Our creative event and wedding design team has experienced quite a few ‘firsts’ over the last several months and this weekend we are gearing up to coordinate our first 4th of July wedding in the historic town of Bedford, Pennsylvania.

Bedford is steeped in American history and is the perfect backdrop for a 4th of July wedding! The ceremony and reception venue, Omni Bedford Springs, has been an ongoing inn since 1806 and is a beautiful resort.

The wedding festivities will begin on Friday night with a rehearsal dinner on the outdoor veranda followed by a relaxing evening by the glorious fire pits. On Saturday (the BIG day), this sweet couple will become husband and wife with a catholic mass inside of the inn, followed by a beautiful reception in the Colonnade Building.

Our bride has great taste and it has been a true pleasure working with her on her vision. A sneak peek into the reception—we will be using a mix of farmhouse tables and rounds, creating a rustic but glamorous feel. The whole weekend will be a perfect mix of new and old!

It has been an absolute pleasure working with this venue and especially their Director of Catering, Brian Stiffler. We are so thrilled to make this special bride’s dreams come true and we are looking forward to sharing all of the images with you.

Happy 4th of July!
